Capricorn is native to the fourth quadrant of the southern sky. In its surroundings there are Sagittarius (Sagittarius), Pisces (Pisces), Aquarius (Aquarius), Aquila (Eagle) and Piscis Austrinus (Southern Fish).

There are several myths and stories told about the image of Capricornus. The Greeks refer to the forest deity Pan. A creature that looks half goat, half human. Greek mythology says that Pan came to the aid of the other gods several times as a guardian over the forests and meadows. To thank Pan, Zeus let him go to heaven.

Delta Capricorni, also called Deneb Algedi, is the brightest star in the constellation. A white giant that can occasionally be obscured by the moon.
